Pune: Alternate Road on Agriculture College Campus Near Completion to Ease Ganesh Khind Road Congestion

Alternate Road on Agriculture College

PUNE: In an effort to alleviate traffic congestion on Ganesh Khind Road, the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has announced the near completion of an alternate road through the Agriculture College campus. This new route is poised to offer relief to commuters, with construction progress reaching nearly 80%. However, the road will only become available for public use by the end of March.

The initiation of this project came as a response to the Agriculture College administration’s decision against allowing their internal roads to be used for traffic diversion. To counteract this, the PMRDA proposed and began construction of an alternative path for vehicles headed towards Aundh, starting February 14. The construction of the seven-metre wide road, accommodating two-, three-, and four-wheelers, is now almost 80% complete.

Rinaj Pathan, chief engineer of the PMRDA, detailed the project’s advancements, stating that the road’s development aims to reduce the traffic burden on Ganesh Khind Road. “With the construction well underway and about 80% finished, we are focused on demolishing adjacent walls for safety and laying asphalt,” said Pathan. The PMRDA has set a target date of March 31 to open the new route to the public, providing a much-needed alternative for Aundh-bound commuters.

The proposed detour will guide travelers from Shivajinagar towards Aundh or Hinjewadi to take a route starting from the Agriculture College’s Wakdewadi gate, leading to the Range Hill metro depot adjacent to the Pune Metro line. This path continues to the Range Hills’ underpass, aiming to facilitate smoother travel for those heading to Range Hills, Bopodi, and Khadki.
