Monsoon 2022| India Registered 6% Excess Rainfall Between June to September, These Nine Regions Received Deficient Rainfall

India Rainfall Status

According to IMD, India registered 106% rainfall between June to September 2022, due to the Southwest Monsoon. Against a normal of 868.6 mm of rainfall, based on LPA (Long Period Average) the country registered 925 mm rainfall in 2022 monsoon. 


IMD further said that 12 meteorological subdivisions covering a total of 40% of the country’s area received excess monsoon rainfall while 18 met subdivisions covering 43% of the country’s area received normal rainfall. Six subdivisions spanning across 17% of the total area received deficient rainfall. These are Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura, Gangetic West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, East Uttar Pradesh, and West Uttar Pradesh.


Meanwhile the withdrawal of monsoon has been sluggish due to the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. The monsoon withdrawal line currently passes through Jammu, Una, Chandigarh, Karnal, Baghpat, Delhi, Alwar, Jodhpur and Nalia.

Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation over the north-east and east-central Bay of Bengal, IMD has predicted scattered to fairly widespread light/moderate rainfall activity over Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Central, East & Northeast India, Islands and along the west coasts. 


Isolated to scattered light rainfall activity is also likely over rest pats of the country except remaining parts of northwest India and Saurashtra & Kutch where dry weather is likely to prevail, IMD wrote on its website.
