Pune MPCB Industrial Closure: Kashyad Industries Shut Down for Environmental Violations

Pune MPCB industrial closure

PUNE – In a significant enforcement action, the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) has initiated a Pune MPCB industrial closure by issuing a notice to Kashyad Industries, based in Dehugaon, for breaching air pollution and noise regulations. The crackdown came to light when the facility was found to be operating without the necessary environmental permissions during an MPCB evaluation.

The closure directive, dated Thursday, March 14, leverages the legal frameworks of section 33A of the Water (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, and section 31A of the Air (Prevention & Control of Pollution) Act, 1981. This move underscores MPCB’s dedication to enforcing environmental norms, catalyzed by grievances from Dehugaon locals on January 30 regarding the industry’s pronounced noise and air pollution impacts.

Subsequent inspections on February 21 revealed the facility’s operation without the mandatory consents, alongside environmental mismanagement evidenced by onsite paint spillage. This resulted in the recommendation for legal action against the industry by the Pune –II sub-regional officer due to its non-compliance.

Ravindra Andhale, Pune’s regional officer for MPCB, called attention to the industry’s lack of adequate pollution abatement systems, contributing to significant air quality degradation in the vicinity. Andhale reiterated that Kashyad Industries must halt production activities immediately and refrain from resuming operations without MPCB’s explicit consent, cautioning that legal steps would follow any breach of this mandate.

This Pune MPCB industrial closure highlights the board’s stringent stance on environmental protection and its readiness to clamp down on industrial offenders.
