Govt Allows 100% WFH for IT Companies

Thousands of employees of IT/ITES companies breathed a sigh of relief as govt allows 100% WFH for IT Companies. The Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, issued a notification, announcing that all IT/ITES companies located in special economic zones (SEZs) will be able to offer WFH to their employees till December 2023


This announcement however, comes with certain terms and conditions. According to a notification from the ministry, the owners of such units in SEZs will need to intimate the Development Commissioner of their respective zone and must continue to operate from the premises.


Companies that wish to commence work from home in future will have to intimate the office of the Development Commissioner on or before the commencement of work from home.

The ministry further added that while the companies will not be required to furnish the list of employees working from home, they will still be required to maintain the list internally.

The export revenue from the services rendered must be traceable back to the unit where the employee is tagged. The companies will also have to provide laptops and any other infrastructure required by the employees for carrying out their jobs.

This notification has increased the duration of WFH which was for a maximum of one year, extendable to up to 50% of the employees.
